the duke surplus store is the university and medical center's dumping ground for unwanted stuff. you'll find everything from broken office furniture to mysterious and sinister medical equipment. ever wanted your own centrifuge or ekg? no problem. you just have to be prepared to pay out the wazoo for it.

the prices are steep, though to be fair, they do have a discount scheme which can make them more manageable. duke affiliated persons get a discount, and on top of that all prices are reduced gradually over time. just beware of what you are buying because a lot of it is broken, and by god stay away from their computing equipment. even with the discount scheme, it's all overpriced.

all the bashing aside-- i have to say that this is a wonderland of strange and interesting things. it's worth at least one trip just to see what you can see.
