Suckfest, a two-day Greensboro, NC music festival, will be held at The Blind Tiger, November 7-8. Be sure to listen to WXDU this week for your chance to win tickets.

Bands for the Friday, Nov. 7 show include: Dope Body, Designer, Junior Astronomers, Roomrunner, Whatever Brains, Dumpster, Flesh Wounds, Wymyns Prysyn, Space Bear, Teen Death, Fever Dream and Black Santa.

Saturday, Nov. 8 bands are: Cop Problem, Priapus, Lesser Life, Born Hollow, Holder's Scar, Distrust, Yautja, Irata, Empire, Hawks, Gut Feeling, Rulebreaker, Future Primitive, Damn Frank and Totally Slow.

WXDU is proud to cosponsor an early voting rally at The Pinhook next Sunday, October 26, at 2:00 p.m.

The show will be FREE, and features a ton of great local bands, including PIPE, Shirlette Ammons, Daniel Bachman, Hammer No More The Fingers, Some Army, Midnight Plus One, and SOON, plus DJ Direwolf spinning between bands.

The main downtown early voting site in Durham is just a couple of blocks away, and there will be marches to the polls during the event. 

The show is cosponsored by WXDU, The Pinhook, and Democracy NC, and it will be FREE to everyone. PLUS, if you can't attend in person, the entire show will be simulcast on WXDU 88.7 FM or here at wxdu.org, from 2pm til 7pm.

Up first tonight on the News, Sports, and Information block at 6:00, we have the latest edition of Jukebox Graduates, the show produced by students in the Githens Middle School Bruce Springsteen fan club. The kids will share songs from the Boss, along with anecdotes and commentary about the music.

Next at 7:00: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. A diagnosis of breast cancer represents the beginning of a journey filled with difficult decisions and anxiety about the outcomes. Dina Howard shares her story in "Dina's Diary: Journey of a Cancer Survivor." In this Capital Public Radio documentary, Dina records her battle with breast cancer for one year, documenting her experience with the disease.

First at 6:00 tonight, WXDU's science show, The Endless Frontier, will take a look at a new study on the effects of artifical sweeteners on the microbiome, the bacteria that inhabit the human gut. The hosts will also examine new information about stem cell therapy and regenerative biology.

Next at 6:30, With Good Reason explores the roots of rock 'n' roll, race in imaginings of the South, dialects and education, and "Affrilachian" poetry. Host Sarah McConnell begins with a discussion of Sister Rosetta Tharpe, the "Godmother of Rock 'n' Roll." Next, she examines the portrayal of the problem of racism in Brodway plays and how teachers can deal with students who speak in dialects rather than standard English. Finally, McConnell talks about Affrilachian poetry as it celebrates its 20th anniversary.

Then at 7:30, Lincoln Wensley has WXDU Sports. Lincoln will have a wrap-up of the Duke men's football season so far, as well as analysis of the team's future this fall. He'll have comments from the team before they played last weekend's game against Miami and a recap of that match-up. Lincoln will also talk about what the Blue Devils have in store for next week's contest against Georgia Tech.

The police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, last month began a national dialogue on police behavior. At 6:00 tonight, BackStory with the American History Guys takes a look at the history of police in America. The guys talk about how the modern police department began, the historical expectations of policing, the role of race and ethnicity in law enforcement, and what happens when officers fail to protect citizens.

September 15 through October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. At 7:00, Philosophy Talk explores Latin American philosophy. Hosts Jon and Ken discuss the early origins of philosophy in Latin America, how it differs from that of America and Europe, and how modern Latin American philosophy is evolving.

Tonight on WXDU, we've got the latest installment of Jukebox Graduates, Githens Middle School's Bruce Springsteen fan club show. The kids take to the air at 6:00, when they'll be highlighting the best of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Next at 7:00, With Good Reason, in a program called "When America Took to the Air," shares the story of Aviation in America and how World War I fighter jets and stunt pilots led to the development of air mail and commercial flight. Later, they discuss the newest actor to take over the role of Doctor Who, who becomes the 12th Doctor in the show's more than 50-year run.

Then at 7:30, Martin Kang will have WXDU Sports. Martin will report the latest scores and sports news. He will also share a piece produced by Y-Press called "A Girl on the Football Team?!" which profiles one middle school girl who plays on her school's otherwise all-boy football team. Martin will also have a look at women who compete as boxers, in Radio Diaries' documentary "Teen Contender."
